The wait is over and…

…I am going to the New York Marathon! (Refer back to my previous post about entering the lottery here.) The drawing was held on Wednesday as I kept checking my email over and over again to see if I heard anything. Finally around 4 in the afternoon, I saw an email with this:

You're In!

runnyI never expected to get in as over 134,000 people entered the lottery and only 47,500 to 50,000 will run. Part of me really wanted to run it the other part of me was convinced that I wouldn’t. Now I got in and now I am going to New York City for the first time. My sister-in-law entered the lottery as well but unfortunately did not win nor did her other four friends that entered. I am one of six that she knows of that won, one lucky lady! I’m disappointed that I won’t get to share in this event with her, but Brent is going to come and maybe my sister. We are going to enjoy some sights as we gave ourselves a couple extra days after the marathon to do the touristy thing.

As I was thinking about this yesterday, October is going to mark my 5th year of running. Is there a better way to celebrate than running my fifth marathon at the biggest marathon in the world? I think not! Take a look at the course map below. I have already learned so much about New York City in the last two days as we looked at our options for hotels and looked at race details. It looks like it will be a great one. One last thought, New York City is ginormous!
