NYC Day 2 – The Walk

Krista would be coming later in the day, so got up and headed for our first task of the day, coffee. One of the things I resolved to do on this trip was to spend quality time with a mug/cup of coffee in hand and good company by my side each day. With aid of Yelp, Google Maps and a list of recommended places from our host we set out for one nearby.

It was closed and it was raining. As were a few others in the vicinity. One thing we were avoiding was Starbucks, as we can have that coffee at home, and we were looking forward to unique cafes. As we were both pouring over listings on our phones, under the cover of a construction awning, a gentleman walking his dog passed by and asked us what we were looking for. Upon hearing coffee, he said Starbucks. Upon explaining our desire for a more local experience he directed us to a small cafe by the name of Happy Bones. It was a no frills cafe. No flavors, few options. We both had lattes and sat down, deciding where to go next, plotting our route north through various parks and notable places.

We made our way up to Time Square by mid day and took in the site, visiting as much as we could. While wandering around, we ran into a friend in town with his wife for the weekend (this was not planned and we didn’t know either of us would be in NYC for the weekend) and joined them for lunch.

Eventually we ended up at Penn Station waiting for Krista to arrive. We had been messaging her, so we had a good idea of when she would be arriving. There was a Ranger’s game at the Madison Square Garden, so the area was quite busy. She arrived and we headed off to get dinner. We found a well reviewed pizza shop nearby and got our order to go and hauled it back our weekend getaway.
