I had to say it.

Photo Feb 26, 8 37 13 AMI just had to say that I was back in the full swing of running again after the weather snap didn’t I? It is now about a day and a half after my last post and things have changed. Last night when I got off work, it was 9 degrees and slowly dropping. I made it out for my 400’s. By the time I was getting to the last couple, I could hardly feel my legs they were so cold. I decided to cut them a little short as my lungs were also acting up. I figure that I at least got over half of them done and it was better than nothing. As I went to bed last night, I set my alarm for 5:10 this morning to get up to go pound out a 5 miler. Today’s high is 34 degrees, so I figured that it would get through the cold snap and start warming up early in the morning. Usually in the winter, the warmest part of the morning is between 5 and 6 am. I was wrong. I woke up to see that it was -10 outside! So much for setting my alarm to get up and continue my training. I went back to bed for a bit knowing that there was nothing I could do to get out on my run.

Now it is a couple hours later and it is still -10 degrees outside. It was suppose to be at least 10 degrees by now. Will we ever make it to the high for the day? I have my strength training tonight with my friends. I hoping to secretly sneak out afterwards and get my run in, but it isn’t going to be a fun one after the strength training. I should really get my run in before but that doesn’t work when you have to make money and stay at your job till 5. Hopefully we can reach our high for the day. Hopefully tomorrow is warmer. Hopefully the high of 1 degree for Saturday changes so that I can go out on my long run. Sunday is calling for a high of 9 degrees. Hopefully that can get a little higher as well. I am always willing to move my training days around to help combat the weather, but it is hard when it is this cold out.

Now I think back to at least having the option of using that treadmill even though I didn’t get along with it. At least it helped me to not get too behind on my training. Is it worth paying for a gym membership or to own a treadmill when this is only the second week in my training where the weather has not been so kind? How do I just deal with these set backs? Are these set backs going to ruin my chances for the goals I have set for Denver? Oh the excitement of training during the winter in Montana. Please pray for higher temperatures! I can deal with running in the snow. Running in inches of snow just makes it harder and tires me out quicker. I think of it as a hard training session. Running in freezing temperatures, I can’t get past that one. Last night was hard enough to breathe as it was 6 degrees by the time I finally went inside. My limit for running outside is 5 degrees. I have to stop somewhere and 5 degrees is not fun. Not fun at all.
