What are friends for?

I love having friends that are willing to help me out with my training. I have always been really bad about taking the time to do core workouts and anything other than running. I knew I needed some help. I have done a few things off and on with the last marathons, but I was never committed. I would skip those nights in my training program more often than actually doing them. It was a little easier when I had a gym membership. I knew if I wanted to try and do my best at this marathon that I needed to commit to all the areas of my training. Cross training is another area that is difficult because of the ice on the roads during the winter. I think Brent and I are going to break down and buy a bike trainer. Bring on the riding inside! This will also be great to get in shape for the cycling season.

I had a couple friends come over to my house the other night to help me out with my strength training in preparation for my marathon. My one friend set up a routine for us to do. We worked out way through the routine twice. By the end of it I could barely move my arms and legs. She came up with a routine that included some yoga moves with more of an intense focus on areas to help with running. It was great! Just what I needed from her and it was great to have another friend tag along for the ride. We can laugh about getting tired together and our legs not being able to move any more. Although, they both did way better at all the the routines than I did. Good thing I got track ladies to help me out.

It was great and I am still feeling it a couple days later. I am even feeling it on parts of my body that I didn’t know I used. I love that these friends are willing to work with my training schedule and devote some time to helping me out.  I am looking forward to more sore days and hard workouts with these two! Maybe one of these times I’ll actually post the workout. It is a good one and you don’t need much to be able to do it at home.
