Gas Buydown

Saturday, Jess and I had the chance to go and serve with Venture Church at Bozeman’s first ever “Gas Buy-down.” For those of you who don’t know what that is, a gas buy-down is where a sponsoring organization comes in to a gas station to reduce the price of fuel by a certain amount, in this case 50¢ and turn the fuel stop into a full service station. This was not an event to showcase the prominence of Venture, but it was to live out what we believe, loving God, loving people and serving others. We didn’t leak the event to the presses, nor did we light up the various social media. We instead advertised the event to those in need, and word of mouth did the rest. The buy-down was in effect for two hours, fueling nearly two hundred vehicles. When people asked why we were doing this, we simply stated “because we care!” Now some people were looking for a catch, but there was none. It was easy to tell we were a church group as we had on bright green T-shirts with Venture Church written on it. I know that some people were expecting to be preached at and some people were shocked to hear we didn’t have an agenda. We were living out our faith, serving others. I can’t wait until the next time. Meanwhile, please enjoy the time-lapse I stitched together below!
