Cheesy Breadsticks

Tonight was pizza night in the Powell house. We made a homemade chicken pizza with Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce. I decided that I would try to make some breadsticks to go along with them. Another new creation and a keeper it is!

For the Bread:

2 cups flour

1 tsp. yeast

3/4 cup warm water

2 1/2 tsp. sugar

3/4 tsp salt

1/8 cup olive oil

For the Topping:

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup parmesan cheese

1 tbsp dried parsley

1 tsp garlic salt

1/8 cup olive oil

Add the yeast to the warm water and let stand until creamy. Mix the dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Then add the yeast mixture and oil to the dry ingredients. Mix well.

Lightly sprinkle flour on a flat surface. Turn dough onto it and knead until elastic about 10 minutes. Place the dough in a large bowl and cover. Let rise until double in size.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Oil a cookie sheet. Put the dough on the cookie sheet and flatten the dough to the sides with your hands.

Mix the oil with the garlic salt and spread across the bread. Sprinkle the two cheeses on top of the dough. Then sprinkle with dried parsley.

Let sit until double in size if you have time. Put in the oven for 10-15 minutes until slightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and slice them into breadsticks. Serve warm.
