Crescent Lake

As Jess had already blogged about, we headed up to Hyalite once again on New Year Eve’s Day to showshoe. Krista tagged along with us and as we approached the reservoir parking lot, we noticed that the wasn’t a chance for parking. Fortunately, many of the Hyalite trails are connected by skiing trails during the winter, so we parked at the same trail head as last time. We set out into what was a gorgeous winter day. Snow had fallen just that morning, which made for an absolutely beautiful sight. The thick evergreen forest was coated with fresh snow, all the trees bowed down under the added weight. It was about mid morning so the sun was shining through the trees. We stopped along the trail to take some pictures, and video. We eventually found ourselves at the prime destination for the trail, Crescent Lake. It’s a small lake, shaped like its name implies, surrounded by trees. On the far end of the trail, the view opens up to an amazing view of mountains. We headed out onto the snow-covered lake, spoiling the undisturbed snow. After taking in our fill of the view, we headed back on the return trail, one that had yet to be traversed since the previous snowfall. We made our way back to the car, satisfied to have spent such a wonderful morning in nature.
