We left from Grantown just after sunrise and headed south to St. Andrews. It was a wet day, which made the greenery even more pronounced. Being more relaxed while driving, I was able to enjoy the scenery even more. We arrived in St. Andrews late morning and set off to find a place for lunch. The rain had subsided and the sun even made an attempt to shine. The town felt like a small scale version of Edinburgh, but with the smell of the sea. We ate and continued touring the city. The castle ruins jutted out into the sea and a nearby ruined church with its graveyards filled a great expanse toward the docks and fishing harbor.
The night before, we had watched Chariots of Fire and the scene where the protagonists ran down the beach, was in St. Andrews, so of course we walked along that very beach. Though, we did not run. We left St. Andrews for Edinburgh and were able to find a spot to park right in front of our BnB listing for our last couple nights in Scotland. The listing was an apartment atop a spiral staircase. Just outside was an open market, which was shadowed by the castle atop the hill. Once again, we were pleased with our little getaway.
