Hell Roaring Creek trail is an easy hike in the Gallatin canyon. The trail head is between the Storm Castle and Lava Lake trails on the west side of the canyon. The hike take a couple of switchbacks up to a ridge. The switchbacks are long and easy, but a little muddy in the spring. Flowers abound in the spring as you walk through the dense forest. Views of the Storm Castle outcropping occasionally open up to the east as you hike. As you come over the ridge you are about one mile (unmarked) into the hike. You then descend down into Hell Roaring canyon and eventually to the creek. There is a sturdy bridge crossing the creek. The trail continues alongside the creek, occasionally opening up into short meadows. The trail “ends” when you reach the Lee Metcalf Wilderness boundary 2.5 miles in.
