As you all know a couple weeks back Brent and I took a vacation to Colorado for my marathon. Running a marathon is also a really good excuse to take a vacation. In the past, we have gone to Portland and spent the non-marathon days with the Powell family. We have gone to Nashville and spent time with Brent’s brother and his family. Then we headed to San Francisco and spent time with two sets of really good friends. All of our other vacations have been spent around family. We have taking a few night trips most of them being camping.
This trip was different. We were on a mostly us vacation. We left the dog behind with my sister and hit the road on Thursday night. We stopped in Casper, WY for Brent to do a few things at the office down there. Oh the life of an IT Manager! It was nice to be 6 hours closer to Denver’s for a quick drive on Friday midday. We headed out as Brent was getting messages while driving on the road. I took his work iPad and he told me what to do. I worked for about an hour for him. It was a funny time. As we got closer to Denver, the traffic got congested. It took an extra hour to get into town as we saw Coloradans getting impatient and making their own exists off the interstate.
We made it in town and went straight to the race expo to get my packet. It was being held at the mile hight stadium which I guess was pretty neat. I took pictures for my sister as she is a huge Broncos fan. The expo was a little disappointing compared to the others I had been too. We made our way to the hotel and settled in before finding a place to eat. We had a great night and headed to bed early after a long day. Saturday was our 6th anniversary so we decided to go to the zoo. Brent has already posted several fantastic pictures. Unfortunately, my camera was left at home so I will bore you with my iPhone photos. We had an amazing day walking around the zoo and downtown Denver. The best part about the day was that it was just the two of us. We were free to do whatever and whenever we wanted. Best vacation! This day made the whole trip worth while.
You all know how the marathon went so I will skip over that. I quickly cleaned up and then we headed out of town towards Pagosa Springs. We had a great drive as I sat there sore from the run. We made it to Pagosa in time to hang out with our good friends for a couple days. We went into Durango for a day and enjoyed some more us time before heading back to Pagosa. Durango was a great little town. They had a Nepali restaurant, so we were able to enjoy some Dal Bhat! It was great to have that food again. We spent the next day soaking in the hot springs before heading off to Moab. Moab was a fantastic day as Brent has already shown you pictures in a previous post. It doesn’t sound like much of a vacation but it’s the only us one that we have taken. Overall, it was a much needed vacation that took our minds off of what was at home. We keep ourselves too busy most of the time. We needed this and I loved it.
