What to do to pass the time while Brent is at work? Why run of course! Now if you have ever been in the Columbia River Gorge and stopped in any town running along side the river, you will know how hilly they all are. Also, if you know the area of Bozeman that I lived in, you will know of the lack of hills.
This lack of hills made it great for running with a stroller. Pushing a stroller up a hill is never fun. I never like it while on a walk and when I ran, I avoided hills like a plague. Now, I can’t. Or can I? I have ran along the river a few times when visiting the parents here in The Dalles. To avoid hilly stroller runs, I have elected to head down to the river a couple days a week. There I fly down the nice paved path with the stroller and dog in tow. It is a great little getaway from the house and it gives me a pretty decent view most days. My river run is refreshing and I forget about the things that I am struggling with.
Now, I don’t avoid the hills everyday because White Salmon and Stevenson don’t have nice flat trails along the river. I won’t be able to avoid the hills. I’ve taken the kiddo out on one hilly run so far and was able to manage to not let go on the downhills and to keep running on the uphills. The more I practice I know it will get better. The lower elevation seems to help with my energy level on the hills as well. That has been a plus for the hilly runs. Here is too running more hills and pushing that stroller up and down. DON’T LET GO!
