Jess, the dog and I headed just outside Bozeman for the 4th of July holiday weekend to Battle Ridge campground. It is only about 45 minutes out and usually has several sites available. Due to the high camping volume of the weekend I headed up early to secure a spot. The last one.
That night we headed up after Jess got off work and we set up the rest of our stuff, ate some dinner and then went for a sunset walk. The sun was slowly setting over the nearby peaks of the Bridger Mountain range, so we waited to see if we could capture some good pictures.
The next morning, we headed over to Fairy Lake to hike up to Sacajawea Peak. It’s a two mile trek to the summit, but it’s a steep one. We thought Jess would be the most extreme summit-ee, being 4 1/2 months pregnant, but a couple in there later seventies took the top prize. We had to hold down Flynn for fear he would knock someone off the mountain as he tried to catch the various moths flying around.
We stopped off at the lake at the bottom of the trail and enjoyed our packed sandwiches. I strode out into the water for a bit to cool of my feet before heading back to camp. Back at camp we settled in for nap, later went for a hike on a nearby trail and just had a simple, quiet evening by the fire. A weather system started to roll in as we settled in for the night, providing a cooler nights rest.
On Sunday morning we rose, ate some breakfast, packed up and headed home, still making it back in time to shower and go to service. All in all, a wonderful, relaxing weekend!
