The day started early. Jess had to get to the Staten Island ferry to catch a ride to the marathon start. Krista and I rode with her on the subway to her last stop. After saying our goodbye and good luck, Krista and I continued on the line up into downtown Manhattan. We revisited many areas that Jess and I did the day before, starting our day off with coffee. We knew about what time we would need to get around to see Jess run past us when she hit Manhattan. We even went to a Marvel Avengers exhibit off Times Square and were inaugurated as S.H.E.I.L.D agents.
We eventually used up our free time and headed to a point where we hoped to catch a glimpse of Jess. We were there, she ran by us, but we never knew. We tracked her via her phone and the dot came and went, without as much as a glimpse. We were disappointed, but it was the world’s largest marathon with 50,000 runners and a quarter-million spectators lining the streets. Not wanting to miss her near the finish line, we headed toward central park, side-skirting a few blocks of pedestrian congestion. We didn’t have finish line passes, so we waited at the family reunion area. After about an hour, Jess finally emerged, draped in a blue fleece windbreaker/blanket/poncho thing.
We made our way back to the apartment and got ready for our evening plans, a trip to the Broadway show, Wicked. Showered and refreshed we headed to the show, grabbing a New York hotdog along the way. The show was fun, we were basically in the nose-bleeds, but it was still enjoyable. We wrapped up our night wandering through Times Square.
