Marathon training has been going better for the most part over the last several weeks. I think I needed that half marathon race to give me a boost in my training. Today I am one month away from the New York City Marathon. I am getting excited! The weather is changing here in Bozeman. I no longer have light on my morning runs and the bears are out and about. This means we have to be extra careful while running on the trails even in town. It has been windy, raining and cold. I am not ready for the change. The evenings have been the worst for the weather which is never motivating. I had a long run this last Saturday that almost lasted 4 hours! I was out in the middle of nowhere running on dirt roads which were more like mud roads. With the rain pouring down, a little wind and my feet sliding back and forth, it made for a really long run. I was running out near the foothills of the Bridger mountains which meant that I got a really good workout! Too bad I could hardly move my feet at times. I finally gave up on the mud and just did small back and forth sections of the gravely road to make it through. I was just surprised that I never gave up! I was on a 20 mile run that took me about 7 minutes less than my best marathon. Ha! Plus side, I was tired on Saturday evening and so were my legs, but I didn’t get sore like I normal do the next day! I guess running slow has it’s perks! I know this post is kind of a rambling one, but I think you get the point. My training is going better. I have one more really long run and then my tapering begins! I can’t wait. I am really looking forward to the race and then a little bit of a break from running. More specifically, I am looking forward to a break from training! Oh, and then hopping a plane to Scotland from New York City will sure be a great break from the everyday!
