A few weekends back, Brent and I took, off early from work on a Friday night to go enjoy a nice overnight hike into the Spanish Lakes. We met up with our really good friends and hit the trail. We even put a pack on the dog so that he could carry his own food. The weather was perfect with clear blue skies and the perfect heat. The trail was a steady 8 mile climb up to the first of 6 mountain lakes. We got their with plenty of light to build camp, a fire and make some dinner. We were lucky to have been given some homemade dehydrated meals. They were the best! Wth the temperatures being in the 80’s, we packed light. Turns out that we shouldn’t have. It was 26 degrees when we woke in the morning. The dog was shivering and both Brent and I were cold in our 35 degree bags. Oh well! We all made it through the night, once I got the dog shoved in my sleeping bag so that he would stop shivering. He also helped warm me up. We had a nice morning by the campfire with more homemade dehydrated food and our coffee. We went exploring a little more and found 3 more of the lakes. Flynn also enjoy a great stake out with a marmot. After the lovely morning, we headed back down the mountain leaving our friends behind to enjoy another night in this amazing spot. I love living in Montana and being surrounded by such beauty!
