A few weekends ago, Brent and I took some friends up to Pine Creek Lake that we had discovered last year. To be honest, I didn’t really want to go because there was a good chance that it was going to rain. Brent and our friends still wanted to go, so I of course went with anyways. With the haziness in the sky, the hike began with a bit of discomfort. Fortunately, this area had less haze than Bozeman. We made our way to the half way point before the rain kicked in. The rest of the hike we spent getting soaked. Yes we had our rain jackets, but no Brent and I don’t have any other rain gear for backpacking. By the time we made it up to the lake, we were soaked and ready to change into dry clothes. We quickly sent up our tents. We borrowed a small two man backpacking tent from some other friends. We got inside, changed into dry clothes, ate some food and decided to call it a night. We crawled into our wet sleeping bags and huddle close to stay warm. The reasons I didn’t want to go backpacking, happened.
Throughout the night we could hear the wind howling as it brushed through the trees above us. The rain continued to come down and I found myself praying that it would clear up by morning. I didn’t want to deal with tearing down a tent and hiking down the mountain in the rain. With sleeping off and on, I finally found myself awake. It was about 7 in the morning and there were no signs of wind or rain. I crawled out of the tent to find a gorgeous morning. This was definitely going to make up for the night we had. It was a beautiful scene! You have got to love God’s creation.
We spent sometime wondering around the lakes and then eventually making our trek back down the mountain. We ended the day at a family restaurant with burgers and milkshakes. They never tasted so good! With all things considered, the trip went well. It was a great weekend with our friends.
