Last weekend, Jess and I had the wonderful opportunity to help out with the Stamp Out Hunger food drive here in Bozeman. For those of you who don’t know what this event is, it is where the US Post Office worker pick up donated food at their normal postal stops and deliver it to the local food bank. We showed up eager to work, but we had arrived during a lull. We were assigned the task of bagging up 3 cup bags of brown sugar to distribute as a local caramel maker had donated leftover supplies to the food bank. We worked steadily at this task for about 45-minutes, chatting away with some other who were performing the same duty. We went outside to grab a water when our first truck arrived. Everyone made quick work of the incoming food, sorting it into various bins, boxes and crates. Truck after truck came, and with each one boxes were filled, full ones were taken away and new people showed up and were instructed on what to do. We were there for about two and a half hours, I think most of that time was spent between loads chatting, sometime forcing conversation, or having conversation forced upon you depending on the type of person you are. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
