NYC/Scotland – The Return Home

iPhone 5s - NYC-Scotland (8 of 9)We got back on that double decker bus one more time, to return to the airport, to return home. We had a long day ahead of us. It was sad to be at the end of such a wonderful trip, but we left without regret on the time spent. From the window outside our terminal, we watched the busses deliver more people to and from the airport. We had our last dose of flat white coffee, our fitting last taste of Scotland.

iPhone 5s - NYC-Scotland (9 of 9)The travel back was about as average as you could expect for a budget traveller. Fortunately the plane had an infotainment system with plenty of movies to watch. We flew back through Newark, NJ on our return path. We were excited as we blew through customs, thinking that we had just had the smoothest process of getting back into the States ever. But that was before we realized that after customs, you are no longer in the terminal, and have to go back through TSA security checkpoints, the same terrible checkpoint that we had to go through a week earlier. For this reason alone, I’ll try to avoid Newark as an international airport if at all possible.

Our flight to Denver was standard fare, but our flight back to Bozeman was not. We had to wait for our plane to arrive from Missoula, as it had some technical difficulties. We were in the far end of a terminal. The terminal was actually at ground level and had poor heating trying to cope with the frigid weather outside. While we waited and tried to stay warm, we put up with a man vaping a rather organic blend, with an exhaust smell worthy of a minor headache. Once on the plane, we sat on the tarmac for a while while they deiced the wings, sitting in a line of about half-dozen plane waiting for takeoff.

The rest was about a standard as it gets, we were tired, delayed and ready to go to bed. Fortunately we had the next day off. Krista on the other hand wasn’t so fortunate. Now it was time to adjust, to get back to life and see what adventures are in store for us next!
