Running and Cycling

Yesterday morning, Jess had a scheduled 20 mile run to do and since I’ve been dragging my feet on the whole running front, I decided to run a portion with her. I also recently signed up for the Seattle to Portland cycling event, so I needed to get out on that new bike of mine and take it for a decent ride, not just one mile here and there. So I ran about 4.5 miles with Jess and cut back toward home, making it close to 5.5 miles. I then proceeded to grab my bike, some water for Jess and myself and headed on my way to catch Jess. It was a chilly morning, still warm for a Montana February, and still crazier that I was on my bike. As I wove throughout town, making my way towards Jess, I couldn’t help but enjoy myself. It made me think of what fun is to be had this summer getting out with my bike more often. Speaking of the bike, it was a great pleasure to be out on a road bike. I’ve gone for long rides with my mountain bike before, but it was so much better to be on a machine that made it easier and far more enjoyable to do. Just before I caught up with Jess, I had the chance to ride down a nice hill that got me up to some pretty decent speeds and it was a blast. I caught up with Jess and began my support role, stopping every couple miles to check on her, give her more water and take her jacket when she became too warm to wear it. I  had some fun while waiting, snapping pictures and just enjoying the beautiful morning. As we came closer to the end of the route, the wind picked up and temperature lowered. I gave Jess her jacket back, and checked on her one more time before heading back home to get some chocolate milk ready for her (seriously amazing recovery drink!) and have something ready for her to eat. I was anxious to get off the bike, though wonderful it was, because my rear was getting a little sore. It ended up snowing a few inches that afternoon, making us glad we ran/biked early in the day, so we could just enjoy the snowfall.
